Dear R.F. Hazard Families,
It is with great excitement and heartfelt gratitude that I introduce myself as the new principal of R.F. Hazard Elementary School. I am honored to join this exceptional community of dedicated educators, supportive families, and inspiring students. Hazard has such a rich tradition of achievement—from PBIS and AVID certifications to state and national awards including state honors like California Distinguished School and national honors like America’s Best Urban Schools and U.S. Best Schools—and I’m inspired by the dedication we share toward academic excellence, social-emotional growth, and college and career readiness.
As part of the Garden Grove Unified School District, Hazard proudly embraces our District’s three strategic goals:
● Goal 1: Academic Skills — Nurturing mastery of standards, scholarly habits, critical thinking, and growth in all subject areas.
● Goal 2: Personal Skills — Cultivating motivation, social-emotional well-being, strong character, and a positive school climate.
● Goal 3: Lifelong Success — Ensuring students are prepared for meaningful future paths and college and career readiness.
Together, we will work together to weave these goals into every aspect of our school community. From classroom instruction utilizing AVID to after-school programming, from family events to student support—it’s all connected with one purpose: empowering every Eagle to SOAR.I firmly believe that the magic of Hazard comes from connection. To our families, your partnership matters. Whether you volunteer, participate in events, join the PTO, or simply cheer from the sidelines—you are a vital part of our success. Your presence truly strengthens our school. As we enter this new school year, I look forward to getting to know each student, family, and staff member. My commitment is simple: to build a joyful, safe, inclusive environment where every child feels seen, supported, and empowered.
Hazard is more than a school—it’s a family. Together, we will SOAR to new heights!
Warmly,
Mrs. Sherry Sanborn, M. Ed
