Principal's Message

Principal's Message
Dear R.F. Hazard Families,
As we begin the 2026–27 school year, I am filled with gratitude and excitement as I welcome you back to R.F. Hazard Elementary School. Reflecting on my first year as principal, I am incredibly proud of all that we have accomplished together as a school community. It has been a privilege to serve alongside our dedicated staff, supportive families, and outstanding students.
There is a reason Hazard continues to be recognized as one of the top elementary schools in California. Our commitment to academic excellence, student well-being, and college and career readiness has earned recognition as a PBIS Platinum School, an AVID Certified School, a California Distinguished School, and most recently, inclusion among the top elementary schools recognized by U.S. News & World Report. These honors reflect the hard work and dedication of our entire Hazard community.
As part of the Garden Grove Unified School District, our work continues to be guided by the District's Strategic Plan:
Academic Skills + Personal Skills = Lifelong Success
At Hazard, we remain committed to providing rigorous and engaging learning experiences while continuing to strengthen the systems that support every child's success. As an AVID Certified School, we will continue empowering students with the skills they need to think critically, collaborate effectively, stay organized, and prepare for future success. As a PBIS Platinum School, we will continue fostering a safe, supportive, and positive school culture where students learn the importance of being Safe, Respectful, and Responsible.
Our dedicated staff works every day to ensure that students are challenged academically, supported socially and emotionally, and inspired to achieve their personal best. We believe that strong partnerships between home and school are essential to student success, and we are grateful for the ongoing support of our families.
As we embark on another exciting year together, I look forward to continuing to build upon Hazard's tradition of excellence. Together, we will ensure that every student feels valued, connected, and empowered to reach their full potential.
Thank you for being an important part of our Hazard family. I am honored to serve this incredible community, and I cannot wait to see all that our Eagles will accomplish this year.
Together, we will continue to SOAR!
Warmly,
Mrs. Sherry Sanborn, M.Ed.
Principal, R.F. Hazard Elementary School
